Cypress Stick is a Small Sword in NieR: Automata. When this weapon is equipped, the chest model of your current character will change and causes damage numbers to change its effects. Small Swords are fast-swinging and one of the easiest Weapons to use among the different classes of weapons. It has decent attack speed perfect for chaining combos and used to deal with multiple enemies at once.

A stick made of cypress wood.

A stick made of cypress wood. Can hardly be called a weapon, but somehow grants courage to its user.

Where to Find Cypress Stick in NieR Automata

  • Can be obtained as soon as the player reaches the area that is before the bridge leading to the castle as 2B. Find a tipped-over pillar leaning on another pillar. Use this construction to reach the ledge in front of you. Use the pillars to reach the farthest ledge (can be quite difficult). Open the chest to find Cypress Stick. (An easier way to get across the pillars is to equip a Spear in your light attack slot, then "Jump, Spear, Spear, Jump". The timing is much more forgiving than the usual "Jump, Jump, Dash" method.)

Cypress Stick NieR Automata Weapon Story

Cypress Stick Level 1 Weapon Story

"I was in a dead sleep when mum started shouting. "Wakey-wakey!" she squawked. "Rise and shiiine! Today's a very important day! Today's your first visit to the castle!" ...Annoying, right? But I got up anyway."

Cypress Stick Level 2 Weapon Story

"Today's my 16th birthday, and I have an audience with the king. Mum's apparently worried that he'll charge me with some big important task, so she gave me a cypress stick for... some reason. Pffft. Like that'll help."

Cypress Stick Level 3 Weapon Story

"As we walk to the castle, Mum keeps blabbing about how excited she is and how long she's been waiting for this day. She's told me this story a million and one times, so I just keep quiet like always."

Cypress Stick Level 4 Weapon Story

"When we arrive, I see my friend coming out of the castle. He's 16, too, but his fearless gaze makes him look like a legendary hero-to-be. I'm sure he's got a lot to live up to! MY dad's just a carpenter, so I've got it easy, heh."

Dragon Quest reference - and while it's a weapon in all or most DQ games, the weapon story is specifically a reference to the start of DQ3.

At Level 4, it gives +15% Critical Hit Chance. It's the highest "Critical +" effect amongst all the weapons: at Level 4 all the rest of them give +10% Critical Hit Chance. Yes, it's base damage it's typically lower than the rival Iron Pipe, but at Level 4 it has 5% more chance of Critical Hit (and each Critical hit does 4x the base damage), and has 2 more attacks in the light combo.

You can reach the chest directly by jumping > rising spear attack (spear on heavy slot) > 2nd jump > mirage skill

I did it in two tries.
Jump jump towards a pillar. You'll then auto-grab it. Repeat to the second pillar.

to get on ther i only needed like 5 times to get the stick, double jump pod throw works fine for me (pc) aside from twhen pod starts attacking instead of throwing me...pillar to piller is almost a perfect double jump and holding onto the pod so that isnt too hard either.

This was a bit easier using missile pod program to jump from platform to platform while ignoring the pillars. Use double jump + pod throw + missile + dash + light attack ... the only thing a bit annoy is to get the facing direction right. you can practice this on the ground to get an idea of distance covered.

You don't even need to dash just double tap X (ps4) then hold on to the pod and it works.. if you dash she wants to roll

I use jump, pod attack and kept holding forward. Should let you land directly on top of the pillar I guess.

I am finding it quite difficult to finesse well enough the numerous jumps to the weapons location. Isn't there an easier way to obtain the Cypress Stick?

For some reason I need different materials to upgrade this to Lvl 2. It requires copper ore, broken key and stretched coil.

Could this be one of the strongest weapons in the game? It's damage may be low, but it can get a whole ton of critical damage.
