Endings in NieR: Automata are different outcomes that can happen depending on your choices inside the game. There are two types of endings in the NieR Automata. Five of them are the primary endings, which are the ones that are unlocked after completing Routes and any other criteria. These are the A, B, C, D, and E endings. Each of them is eligible for its own trophy. As you advance through the game, you can unlock the following 20 minor endings. They are typically acquired through failing to complete specific quest objectives. Click here for the Endings Guide.

How do I start Route B in NieR Automata?

You can immediately start the route to Ending B once you achieve Ending A.

How to save 2B in NieR Automata?

Don't go inside the Commercial District once you've crossed the bridge there. You will be attacked by two corrupted YoRHa units. While keeping in mind that you are unable to fight, combat them as effectively as you can. You'll see a cut scene as soon as it occurs. A2 shows up and destroys both YoRHa Units. A2 will be asked by 2B to take care of everyone and the future. You can tell she has the infection by looking into her eyes. To keep her safe from the infection, A2 will kill her. We are unaware of no other means to protect 2B from the virus than that. There's a "True Ending" where the player is asked if they want to save YoRHa; if they choose yes, they are then launched into a hacking minigame where they literally fight the credits; after winning that, they are then asked if they want to help other players; if they choose yes, they lose their save data, so I recommend saying no here unless you want to start over; after that, you get a cutscene where the pods are gathering up the androids. The fact that 2B, 9S, and A2 are among the collected android bodies suggests that they intend to restore them. Therefore, they might not stay dead.

How long is Route A, B, and C in NieR Automata?

If you decide to play and rush NieR Automata, you can finish Route A, B, and C in more or less 10 hours. For a detailed guide on how to complete routes, visit the Walkthrough page.

How to Start Route B in NieR Automata?

You can immediately start Route B after completing Route A. You begin the game with Route B as a machine attempting to revive your brother. The liquid that is nearby and dripping from the pipe should be poured into the pail at the opposite end of the map. The game will change to 9S when you go back to your brother, so be careful to stay away from any pipes or other obstacles and don't jump, lest you trip and spill the bucket of oil.

What is ending C in NieR Automata?

A2 makes the decision to fight 9S, and with the help of Pod 042, near the end of the fight, she amputates his arm and gains access to his mind. Pod 042 repeatedly cautions A2 throughout his exploration of 9S's mind that the likelihood of eradicating the corruption affecting 9S is, at best, remote. A2 claims to have a plan, but Pod 042, which supports the YoRHa units, firmly cautions against harming them. A2 is impressed by the pod's loyalty. A2 instructs Pod 042 to take care of 9S while she works on one more task after finding the sleeping 9S at the end of the labyrinth. As directed by A2, Pod 042 removes the body of 9S from the scene. It's unclear how he's doing now that the building is gone. A2 approaches the pillar of light as Pod 042 departs with 9S's body and overhears youngsters laughing. She breaks the structure's functionality, bringing about its collapse and bringing her back to the present. A2 announces her impending arrival to "everyone," saying she had no idea how lovely the world was. A2 is killed in the collapse and rubble of the collapsing skyscraper as she extends her hand to the sky.

How to get Ending E in NieR Automata?

Upon viewing either Ending C or D once more, during the credits, you will be prompted by Pod 153 to perform a data check. If accepted, after a brief exchange between both pods, you will be prompted once more. Accepting the option stating you "wish for them to survive" will allow you to play a shooting minigame. Complete the minigame to unlock this ending.

What is Ending E in NieR Automata?

The pods in Ending E reconstruct 2B and 9S's bodies and retrieve their memories from backups. The battle between androids and machines will come to an end if the machine intelligence realizes that fighting is pointless and departs aboard the Ark. There are still some androids in the resistance and a few YoRHa members. Keep in mind that there are no longer any humans alive because they vanished before the aliens even arrived.

What is Ending B in NieR Automata?

After the battle with Adam, 9S is taken back to Bunker for a total data revamp, but while there, he discovers a bug in the Bunker network. 9S suspends all of 2B's and his data synchronization after developing suspicions and starts looking about. He learns an important fact: YoRHa was founded FIRST, not the Council of Humanity, as previously thought. The Commander runs into him outside and admits that humanity has actually been gone for a very long time and that the Council of Humanity was merely established to keep the androids motivated and give them something to live for. She continues by saying that he can use the knowledge whatever he pleases. After that, 9S travels to Earth to assist 2B in his final conflict with Eve. The difference between this ending from Ending A is, the red girls appear and 9S is the one who says "And so, the final battle with Adam and Eve came to an end. Eve loses it once his brother is defeated and assaults 2B and 9S. Eve continues his assault by drawing lifeforce from the remaining machine lifeforms connected to the network. In an effort to disable his object control feature, 9S hacks Eve. 9S is corrupted by Eve's corruption while he is inside of him, but he eventually manages to get rid of Eve's object control feature. The gigantic home with figments of Eve and Adam seated across from one another is what 9S observes as he arrives at the end of Eve's maze. The fictional Eve speaks to the fictional Adam and expresses a desire to travel with him. Eve cries out to his brother as he bows down before 2B in defeat. He is killed when 2B stabs him in the head.

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • During your third playthrough, choose 9S for the final boss battle. During the text portion, you'll have 2 choices: "I'll go with you" or "I'll stay". Choosing either result obtains this ending, though the contents of each version differ.

Note: If A2 is chosen instead, you can quickly acquire this ending by opening Chapter Select and choosing Ch. 17-09.

A2 battles 9S with great malice, but 9S is nearly defeated by her. As A2 considers 2B's request, 9S's sword pierces her, impaling her. While 9S falls next to A2 and impales himself on 2B's sword, A2 collapses to the ground in a pool of her own blood. He is killed while unsuccessfully attempting to remove 2B's blade from his torso. 9S recalls his background and his earlier goals in his closing hours. He is invited to join Adam and Eve on their Ark by Adam after feeling lost due to his functions. 9S is offered the option of choosing to live with the mechanical lifeforms in the Ark after realizing that the girls in red have opted against eradicating humans.

If he doesn't, 9S will glance up at the sky and speak his dying words before eventually shutting down: "So that's where you were...2B"

Accepting the option stating you "wish for them to survive" will allow you to play a shooting minigame. Complete the minigame to unlock this ending.

Note: Dying repeatedly in the minigame will eventually prompt the player asking them if they want help( This only happens if you are connected to PSN/Xbox/Steam network, in offline mode you will receive no help and it will be incredibly hard to finish the minigame.). Accepting the help will make this section trivial.WARNING! When you are asked to delete your save file it means it, you will LOSE all progress, this includes other save files and you will become one of the helpers instead.

Minor Endings in NieR: Automata

Notes: When attempting to get any of the following endings, make sure to save first if necessary, as endings F through Z count as "bad ends" and will return you to the title screen without saving.

Ending F: mission [F]ailed

ending f nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 01-03_2] After Engels knocks 9S onto his back, fail to repair your system by letting the timer run out.

It is now only a matter of time before they are extinct because YoRHa was unable to contend with the power of the Goliaths. It seems impossible for humanity to ever reclaim its former reign.

Ending G: hun[G]ry for knowledge

ending g nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 01-01_2] When you get control of 9S for the first time, walk to the crane and neglect the mission.

9S was last heard saying "I can't control my curiosity about machines anymore. I'm leaving so I can study them as much as I want!" and was never heard from again.

Ending H: a mountain too [H]igh

ending h nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 05-02] Ignore the order to intercept Goliath's attack on the city and abandon the mission. Taking the path from Pascal's Village to the Amusement Park easily achieves this.

2B and 9S made the decision to give up on their objective, enabling the machines to devastate the Resistance camp and city ruins. YoRHa's demise is undoubtedly only a matter of time.

Ending I: no [I] in team

ending i nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 08-01_2] Defeat the boss at the Copied City, then walk away from 9S.

9S longed for 2B to come back for many years. But no one ever saw her again.

Ending J: bad [J]judgment

ending j nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 09-01_3] When entering the factory and meeting the machines, kill any of them.

There was no serenity that day because 2B eliminated the machine lifeforms in a fit of rage.

Ending K: aji wo [K]utta

ending k nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 06-01] After giving your report to commander you'll receive an email titled "Jackass: Fish". Speak to her at the Desert Camp to obtain the Mackerel item, which can be found in the "Caught Fish" menu. Eat it to earn this ending.

It didn't take long for the android's body fluids to coagulate after consuming the mackerel. Paralysis and muscle rigidity soon followed.

Ending L: [L]one wolf

ending l nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 10-01_3] OR [Ch. 10-03] Either exit the Resistance Camp while it's being attacked OR abandon the entrance to Pascal's Village when the boss creature shows up.

Note: While you can acquire this ending two different ways, one involving abandoning Pascal, the ending text will always refer to abandoning the Resistance Camp.

Frustrated, 2B opted to go fishing instead of leaving the camp to its fate. Exactly, that's it! Fishing! She packed things and made her way to the coast while beaming. Ten years later, 2B would find herself the target of both YoRHa assassins and machine lifeforms, a life she seems to prefer over her former one.

Ending M: break ti[M]e

ending m nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 14-03] Don't go to Pascal's Village when it's attacked while playing as A2. Running to the back of the Resistance Camp, Factory or Amusement Park instead should trigger this.

A2 had the sudden need to go for a short walk. Pascal's town had been reduced to ruins when she returned, despite the fact that the trek had given her a sense of fulfillment and calm.

Ending N: [N]o Man's Village

ending n nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 05-01] Destroy every machine in Pascal's village

Note: Does not require you to destroy the machines actively using the slide if you've completed the quest which builds it. Also does not require destroying the reclusive machine, though that can be achieved by attacking through the walls of his house.  In short, kill every machine waving a flag.

The deeds of one insane android destroyed a village of peaceful machines. The peaceful machines died out as a result. Now their village is a forbidden, haunted place. A close listener will hear the bizarre sounds of an android laughing.

Ending O: just y[O]u and me

ending o nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 11-03] Instead of proceeding forward to the City Ruins, simply run back towards the Factory. Alternatively, in [Ch. 11-04], instead of hacking into 2B when she is downed by the EMP, hack the other YorHa units around her until the mission fails, or simply walk away.

The operation was a failure due to several YoRHa units abandoning their task, and every android perished. Except for the truly selfish ones, that is. They were alright.

Ending P: corru[P]tion

ending p nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 11-06] Allow 2B to die from the virus.

Note: May be able to be achieved more quickly by heading to your objective marker and stopping on/before the bridge leading to the commercial facility, as the infection percentage jumps up when you're near your goal for the sake of suspense.

The central nervous system of 2B was infected. She quickly became irrational and ended up wandering the ruins till her power ran out.

Ending Q: [Q]uestionable actions

ending q nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 11-07] Don't go to 2B's location near the commercial facility. Heading to the desert area or back towards the Resistance Camp instead will trigger this ending.

Suddenly, 9S grew bored with 2B. Who knows the reason? He simply lost interest.

Ending R: mave[R]ick

ending r nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 14-05] Attack the peaceful robots nearby Pascal. Going berserk in the room with Pascal and the children can also trigger this ending.

A2 came up with the "brilliant" notion of destroying every machine she saw. Pascal could do nothing but look.

Ending S: city e[S]cape

ending s nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 17-01] When attempting to gain access to the Tower, abandon Popola and Devola after they attempt to protect you.

Note: Ending V can be acquired much more quickly if while attempting to acquire Ending S you save after hacking and disabling the 3 defense nodes, but before approaching the tower. You may also save at the City Ruins: Center save point area mid-battle, but be wary, as moving too far away from the fight (a little past the access point) will count as ending S and you be returned to the title screen.

Devola and Popola, of course, perished. Soon later, each of their lifeless bodies was discovered, closely held in the other's arms.

Ending T: fa[T]al error

ending t nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • To earn this ending simply remove your OS chip.

Death will occur if the OS chip is removed!

Ending U: deb[U]nked

ending u nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 06-01] Self-destruct while in the Bunker.

Note: Can likely be acquired during any visit to the bunker, but 06-01 is a quick and easy starting place if using Chapter Select.

The Bunker self-destructed, causing a magnificent explosion of the entire building. But hey, from Earth, it sure did appear beautiful! The Commander still drifts about in the far reaches of space, a grim expression on her face.

Ending V: reckless bra[V]ery

ending v nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 17-01] When attempting to gain access to the Tower, fight alongside Popola and Devola instead of hacking the Tower (or alternatively just stand there watching).

Note: Ending S can be acquired much more quickly if while attempting to acquire Ending V you save after hacking and disabling the 3 defense nodes, but before approaching the tower. You may also save at the City Ruins: Center save point area mid-battle, but be wary, as moving too far away from the fight (a little past the access point) will count as ending S and you be returned to the title screen.

To aid Devola and Popola, 9S chose not to hack the Tower. Although that was a good idea, they all ultimately perished.

Ending W: broken [W]ings

ending w nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 01-01_1] In the prologue when 2B flies into the factory, let yourself get killed by the giant laser/Die during the prologue in general.

Note: You may wish to unequip any healing/defense chips before using Chapter Select to attempt this ending, as you cannot change chips during flight sections and the healing effects may make this ending take much longer to get.

The YoRHa force was annihilated, so earth went on to become a paradise for the machines.

Ending X: time to rela[X]

ending x nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 11-06] After reaching the commercial facility as virus-infected 2B, when the game switches you to controlling A2, run away instead of helping.

A2 had the sudden need to go for a short walk. Even though she felt content and fulfilled after the walk, 2B's body had already been destroyed by the machines when she got back.

Ending Y: head[Y] battle

ending y nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • Allow Emil to self-destruct at the end of the boss fight in the quest "Emil's Determination".

WARNING: Currently this is the only "missable" ending, and can prevent earning the "Transcendent Being" Trophy/Achievement "legitimately". Make sure to let Emil self-destruct and not save if you complete the fight without acquiring this ending, as there is no way to do the fight over. If one wishes to get the ending and finish the quest, you can save at Desert: Center to make restarting the fight after getting the ending quicker.

The Emils caused their fusion reactors to go out of control, turning the planet into a dead chunk of rock, tumbling through the vast vacuum of an uncaring universe.

Ending Z: over[Z]ealous

ending z nier automata wiki guide 300 px min

Conditions and Walkthrough

  • [Ch. 14-01] After leaving the desert, when you encounter and save Pascal outside the Resistance Camp, choose to kill him instead of sparing him.

A2 annihilated Pascal. After Pascal's passing, his town collapsed and its inhabitants lost control, which led to the elimination of all androids on Earth.

There's also Ending H which is when you run away instead of fighting the Goliath that appears while you're in the Machine Village. So if you run to the theme park instead of heading to the objective, you'll get it.

        Wheres all the rest?? I don't even know if I have them all and I have A B C D E G K O W Z..... typical half ass fextralife

        • About sending help to other players in ending E: If an ally drone is killed it says that person's data is deleted. Is each player's help counted individually and only works for one player's walktrough, or is it kept to an extent? bc if answer 1 is the case, then the ratio of [saves donated/saves killed] doesn't make any sense for there to be any help left.

          • Anonymous

For Ending W, just trigger the self destruct function when you come back to Chapter select. This may be not be possible in the first run since it's automatically disabled at first.

What's the difference between q and x ending when I go to complete the x ending I get the q ending. Seem to be the same in the description

So there is one more ending courtesy of the DLC. You need to finish the machine combat arena (the one in the forest).

Strange, I just finished the game with endings A,B,C and E (and others). I tried to do D but even though I did everything on it, it put me straight to the bullet hell credits scene.

                      Oh well, still worth it.

                      • Ending C and E don't show up on my files.
After beating 9S with A2 it said I got ending "C" and after beating the bullet-hell game I got ending "E".
Now I tried both ways. Helping someone and delete my data and not helping someone and keep my data.
But no matter what I do...the endings won't show up in my savings.

Hello, got a quick question, i am on my first playthrough of the game and when i save it says ending:H, which brought me here in the first place....anyhow in ending A it says that you just have to play through the game, does that mean you can get the rest of the endings after the your first playthough or you get two at the same time? something like A plus H

For Ending W Alternatively Way to get it - If you missed the lazer and missed to take off your healing and defence Chip In case you forgot to unequip any healing/defense chips before the mission and still have it on (like lvl 40 or higher) Just take damange of the Flying manchine that shot at you, you will die afther some it depench what level you are (im lvl 86 or something and i need take 5 or something to die, i still have my healing and defenech itame on and completly forgot take them offf but then deside to let me get hit by the machine and die afther all so i got the ending W)

If ending E "required" you to get help from other player around the world then how exactly does the 1st player completing the game can make it through the ending without any help to help other player?

Wait so i have to finish all the quests in ending A so i can play all the other endings? I’m so confused because when I played after I couldn’t do any quests and I finished ending A but it won’t save the ending and I have to play the game over again and this is the second time this happens and it makes me really mad

Why did not you write about end 27?

For ending P and X, you should quicksave at the savepoint before the bridge to save time. (similar to ending S and V)

there is a 27th ending along with the dlc, you must beat all 3 collosseums and them you receive a email to the last ending

About V and S ending, I wanted to mention that after I had Popola and Devola come to the fight after first attempt to hack; I could go and save at: City ruins: Cave and run deeper to get S ending and next load would start right after I've hacked the three hubs, so if someone accidentally triggers the next phase, you're safe.

I got the Just you and me (O) ending after doing the Anti-air hacking in beginning of third New game+ (C/D route) and saved at point near the mall and ran towards the forest and got the O ending.

Query: At what point does the player finally refuse to accept the loss of their data in order to achieve ending E yet not lose their saved game(s)? I ask this because I discovered that It may not truly be possible to achieve the "E" designation on a saved game. Because, if the Ending E, the [E]nd of YoRHa, is won all of the data will be forfeit and any and all game progresses are completely wiped clean and the game refreshes as if it had never been played... without any saved games.

There is a new ending after Z, I'm not sure is it was with the DLC or something overlooked but now I have some weird triangle symbol at the end of my ending list. anyone know what this is?

                                                          The aliens don't exist.

They are just "puppets", created so that machines and androids would continously adapt and grow up to resemble a human mind and brain, to a point in which either would be ready to receive the backups on the moon, without causing problems due to incompatibility with a "real" mind.

The aliens are for the machines, what YorHa is to the androids.

To anyone finding the ending E hard to do solo (or offline) and willing to do anything to earn it, you can use cheat engine - your ship has 3 maximum life, losing 1 per every hit.

There are other endings as well. So far i have found a "triangle" ending. Achieved for the quest "Mysterious Invitation", acceptable in the inbox closer to the end of the 9S's campaign.

Spoiler: In that quest you play back memories of a machine who wasnt good at anything and in the end it is revealed that some machines are poor creatures who are forced to kill.
