Cruel Lament is a Combat Bracer in NieR: Automata. Cruel Lament is a Combat Bracer made of Black Armor that resembles a samurai armor. This weapon increases your attack speed and with Dark Impulse, it will also increase your damage when you're health is below 30%. Combat Bracers are Weapons that are equipped on both hands and are different from the other bladed weapons in the game. Combat Bracers are also the fastest weapons in the game with also the lowest damage output out of all the weapon types.

AnonymousI got this by upgrading the Virtuous Dignity spear to lvl4 so Idk what everyone in the comments is on about.

You only need to upgrade one of your weapons (any weapon) to Lv. 4, then exit the shop screen. Talk to him again and exit the shop screen to trigger the dialogue that gives you Cruel Lament.

You have to upgrade both of the default virtuous weapons to level 4, long sword and short sword. It's super buggy though and often doesn't proc until you either upgrade another weapon or buy/sell something from him. If you're having problems and you've upgraded the proper weapons try selling him a small recovery medicine.

I had a lot of weapons upgraded to max, but he gave it to me after I checked out his shop.

Incorrect: You don't get the weapon by upgrading any weapon. You need to upgrade THE default weapon itself, the "Virtuous Contract" to level 4.
Does anyone know what this weapon is about?
This sounds like it's about Kainé from Nier Replicant/Gestalt, based on what I've read about that game. Kainé fights for Nier, but since she is part Shade she ends up turning on him at the end. And then she forgets who he is due to his sacrifice.
